Start of the
Launch Campaign

The Launch Campaign is now in full swing, and as you can see there are lots of excited experimenters out at
Esrange Space Center.

Read on to find out what all these people are doing...

The Last Meal

(Before Launch Campaign)

Starting a Launch Campaign on an empty stomach is nothing anyone should go through. Luckily, hotel E10 sponsored IRIS and EXIST with a fancy taco dinner this Thursday. We are forever grateful.

A Very Special Delivery

Not all Team Members could attend the Taco Dinner, as they were away on important missions elsewhere in the world.

François, for example, was sent to Beligum to collect the plexiglass full of quotes that we announced a while back.

Thanks to Team OSCAR for making this possible!

Safety First

Today started with a short introduction of the Campaign Staff, followed by a Safety Briefing. When working with a huge balloon like this there are very large forces involved, so it is extremely important to do everything that can be done to minimize the risks. Especially since Esrange is situated in the middle of nowhere; it would take the emergency services 45 minutes to reach there.

After the meetings, the teams where sent to the Dome to work on their experiments.

To the left you can see some final adjustments to allow  easy mounting in the Gondola (shown on the right).

Further to the right you can see a small sample of the 3 000 lines of code that our Software Team has written.

I want to finish today's post by announcing that for the first time ever, 12 out of 13 project members where  in the same place at the same time! Perfect opportunity for a Team Photo
- or, as in this case -
a Team Animation.

Before we are ready for launch, the experiments must all be mounted in the Gondola. After that, there are a bunch of interference tests to perform, to make sure that the experiments don't disturb each other in any way. More about that tomorrow.
